About the Course
This Digital Printing Workshop is geared towards anyone who wants to learn how to print properly
Today's photographer has amazing print capabilities at their fingertips. Hal will cover the essential information to create the perfect print. From color management to ink to media to workflow Hal will give you everything you need.
This class can be split into a 3-day optimize, theory and print and then a 2-day Canvas gallery wrap workshop. To get the full experience of the print workflow we suggest taking the full week with Hal as you will learn small tips and tricks in both sessions.
Subjects to include in the first 3-day session are:
Prepping and optimizing the images in Lightroom and Photoshop, color management, how to build a custom camera profile, soft proofing, how to calibrate a monitor, digital workflow, what a software RIP is, differences between different inkjet printers, how to choose a printer, what a printer profile is and how to build one. The first 3-days you will practice printing on smaller photo paper working up to large prints and perhaps a few different types of papers that are supplied by Canon and Red River paper company.
The Canvas 2-day attendees will have lots of hand-on experience, adding protective coating to canvas, building a stretcher bar, stretching a canvas, embellishing a print, and adding texture and brush strokes to a print. If you sign up for the canvas 2-day each student will leave with a finished 18x24 stretched canvas print.

We will also have time to go out and get some fresh air on the beautiful Central Coast and get some photography in!
We have plenty of cameras and camera gear sponsored by Canon so if you want to try some of our brand new cameras like the 5D Mark, the XSi's or 7D and 50D bodies, we have plenty to go around!
This is going to be a great week of creative tips and techniques to help you learn the process of taking the photo and stretching your own canvas.
This class is for those who enjoy learning new and proper techniques in presenting your work. Whether you are a professional framer wanting to get some techniques in the most popular framing technique or the artist wanting to learn in a small class environment, this class is open to many levels and useful to all of them!
Please bring a print portfolio with you for this class up to about 16x20. We have small print tubes available but it is best to lay your prints flat to take them home with you.
*We will be teaching printing using Photoshop and Lightroom. We will not be covering 3rd party programs to print from. Though we are not teaching those programs, the printing workflow is similar in most applications. The information about calibrating, profiles and color management is not software specific but we teach from Adobe products and with the XRite Color Munki for this workshop. |
